Round 2 Day 10

I'm up too early but ready to face the day. It's Round 2 Phase 2 Day 10, almost halfway through this round. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and am excited to share my progress.

Todays weight~~~

I will be going walking at daybreak. (I would go now, but the park doesn't open until sunrise) I feel a good hard, long walk coming on. I was able to get my sons IPOD working, so I will have musical motivation. Then errands, then work for 1/2 day.

Tomorrow I am scheduled for a colonoscopy/endoscopy. Not to fret, no result of the diet. I had a bout with stomach cancer a few years ago and this is part of my routine yearly diagnostic testing. Fingers crossed on clean results.

Menu for the Day-

Snack: orange
Walk
Post workout shake
Lunch: roast beef lettuce wraps and cucumbers
Snack: Veal steak with cabbage

Round 2 Phase 2 Day 6

The scale continues to move downward... I was hoping for bigger losses this round. I lost 2.6 lbs this morning. For a total of 9.1lbs this round.  On day 6 of round 1, I had already lost almost 13lbs. Hopefully, the inches will come off quickly this time too.

This brings me to another sore spot. When you start out this diet weighing as much as I did (256lbs) and begin losing weight, it seems that the appearance of weight loss is much less and the drop in clothing size is much slower. I look on some of the forums, and people who started at say, 180, and lose 42 lbs, drastically reduce their clothing size. I, however, have only lost 3 dress sizes. Yes, it is all relative I know. But frustrating none the less. I am hoping that, as I lose weight on this round, that I will see a more dramatic change in inches and clothing size.

I set a weight goal of 190 on this round. But as the losses slow, i will be happy if I can get to ONEderland. (out of the 200's).

As much as it pains me to say, but I think that I may be working out way to hard. I am going to try (the operative word being try) to cut back on my exercise a little. Maybe 3 miles instead of 5 or 6.
I recieved my 10 minute trainer videos and I will try one of those today. I just want my underlying muscles to stay toned so that when all the fat eventually comes off, BAM. A slamming body.

I just think that I may be pushing it a little too hard. I also need to switch it up a bit. I have been walking as my primary form of cardio. The wind has died down here quite a bit, so riding my bike will be on the rotation. I also have, as I'm sure many of us do, various and sundry exercise videos.

I have a Tae Bo, belly dancing, some other dancing videos, now the 10 minute trainer. My friend just got the kettleworx videos and he is going to attempt to make copies for me or let be borrow them here and again.

On the agenda today, is a lot of housework and organizing. I may go out tonight to see my friends band play. It will be tempting, but Perrier and lime has become my friend.

Tomorrow is the seafood festival at the beautiful Deering Estate. We will be there through lunch and dinner. You can't take food in, but there is plenty of doable food choices. But it will be hard to pass up the beer wagons....aack! wouldnt beer flavored stevia be the bomb!  lol

Menu for the day

Lunch: Steak and onion fajita on a bed of lettuce with fresh salsa, melba toast
Snack: strawberries
Dinner: Tilapia with roasted asparagus
Snack: Apple

Day 5

Good morning. I'm down 1.5lbs, which only negates the gain yesterday. I'm kinda frustrated. I should be losing. When I gain and then lose, I feel like I have lost a day. But I shall move forward.

I did have an enlightening moment yesterday. I decided to pull out the sewing machine and take in a few things that were too big. After trying on every pair of jeans in my closet, most were way to big to be altered. So I ended up with a big black garbage bag full of close to be taken to goodwill. YAY!

22's gone, 20's gone, 18's gone. some 16's fit others could be taken in. And yesterday, I wore a pair of 15's (don't even know where I got those) to work. wooohoooo. One of my coworkers recently lost a few pounds and brought me 5 pairs of 14 jeans. I will fit into them come hell or high water.

My overall goal size is an 8. I haven't been in a single digit in 30+ years. Maybe it's a lofty goal, but I am aiming high! I have the jeans hanging on the outside of my closet. (along with the bathing suit that I will wear this summer.

I really need to stop letting the scale rule my day. It is just a tool. I don't even really care what my end weight is. I am more about body composition and size. Heck, at 174 I was wearing a size 12. i just want to really feel comfortable in my own skin. I'm 50 years old. I am not out to look like a model (I'm too short anyway)

Someone posted a great video on not worshiping the scale.

On that note, I am going to get ready to hit the trails for my walk. Feeling good this am. I actually got more sleep than usual. Walked 5.5 miles

Haven't even thought about the menu for the day. I'll be back later to post it.

Menu for the day
Lunch: beef and onion fajita on a bed of shredded lettuce with fresh salsa
Snack: strawberries
Dinner: Shrimp with brussel sprouts
Snack: apple

Round 2 Phase 2 Day 3

Good morning. Finally got a little more sleep than I had been. Which is a good thing. Wasn't feeling as tired yesterday at work. From here on out it should be easy peasy. I am following more the 800 calorie plan this time, because I am working out. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am a researcher at heart. I know that with the advances in Nutritional Sciences, there is proof that eating too little will cause you to hold on to weight. I know that eating all day, or grazing is better for you than 3 meals a day. I am doing another experiment. I have also read that eating a slow digesting protein in the evening will keep the calorie burning furnace going.

Another thing I found is that, if I make one of my meals a salad, meaning, having my protein on a big bed of lettuce or shredded cabbage, it keeps my digestion moving and my BM's a little easier and more frequent.

Let's see what the scale says this am:

I'm going for a walk this morning.

Menu for the day

Snack: orange
Workout: walking
Snack: Shake
Lunch: shrimp salad
Snack:
Dinner: meatballs and brussel sprouts

Sleepless Nights on Phase 2

Here we go again. A recurring theme in phase 2 of the hcg diet. I can't sleep. I'm not sure why this happens. You would think that walking 5 miles would tire me out. Nope. This happened in round 1 also. I don't know if its the B12 in the injections or not. But I know that lack of sleep can affect your losses. maybe I drink coffee too late. Maybe it's the prescribed appetite suppressant. Whatever the cause, I need to find a solution. I don't mind waking up early, but, the fact that I work until 11, makes it rough when about 8pm comes along. I have RX sleep aids, but if I take it, then don't get enough sleep, I feel like I have a hangover. sheess.

We'll see what the scale says this morning. I'm hoping to have, at least, released all of my load weight.

I need to mow the front yard this morning. Maybe cut a few more branches before they come to haul off the massive pile in the front.

Back to work today. 1st day back on Phase 2 (VLCD). There are so many temptations at work. I just keep saying to myself.....

I AM WORTH IT AND
THE ONLY ONE CHEATING HURTS IS ME!

So here's what the scale says this morning~~~~drumroll please!

R2P2D2 down~~~2.4 for a total of 6 this round.

Menu for the day:

Mow yard
Shake
Lunch shrimp & roasted asparagus
Snack: orange
Dinner: Meatballs and brussel sprouts
snack: apple

Phase 3 Day 20

Good morning followers. It is Day 20 of phase 3. Only 4 more days and then I will start Round 2.
I'm feeling a little sore today from Sundays weight training and yesterdays 6.6 mile walk. I think I will let my body rest today. In addition, I haven't been sleeping well. Last night, I took a swig of NyQui. I slept well, but still feel like I have a bit of a medicine hangover. I hope that the alcohol and sugar in the medication doesn't affect me negatively. But I had to do it. The lack of sleep was really catching up to me. Today I am going to spend  in the kitchen, cooking up some meals. I bought some 2 sided freezer/micro storage containers. For the next round, I am going to pre-cook my dinners. I work in the evenings, and I just think it will be easier than getting up and cooking 2 meals.

Right now, I am trying to cook only with P3 allowable foods, so that they will be gone before Sunday. Outta sight, outta mind. If there is anything left on Sunday, my brother will be getting another grocery bag of food.

I've been so obsessed with the diet, that my jewelry making business has taken a back seat. I also have the issue of my son being in Basic Military Training. I secured all my travel, lodging and car rental reservations for the weekend on April 11th-15th. I've timed my rounds so that I will be out there on P3. Much, much easier to eat out.

So now lets go see what the scale says:: 213lbs..that means I am up .5 and still 6.8 below LDW

Todays Menu

Breakfast: protein shake
Snack:
Lunch: Egg and tuna salad over lettuce with avocado dressed with lemon juice and olive oil
Snack: Pear
Dinner: Asian sesame salmon with mock loaded mashed potatoes (mashed cauliflower, butter, cheddar, bacon bits and sour cream
Snack: Fage with strawberries

Working Out and Building Lean Muscle During Phase 3

I've decided that, along with the cardio that I have been doing (race walking, bike riding and elliptical machine) , that I am going to lift some light weights. Strength training is benifical in many ways.

Strength Training: The Benefits

1. Strength training protects bone health and muscle mass. you begin to lose about 1 percent of your bone and muscle strength every year. "One of the best ways to stop, prevent, and even reverse bone and muscle loss is to add strength training

2. Strength training makes you stronger and fitter. Strength training is also called resistance training because it involves strengthening and toning your muscles by contracting them against a resisting force

3. Strength training translates to more calories burned. strength training can boost your metabolism by 15 percent

4. Strength training helps you develop better body mechanics.  Your balance and coordination will improve, as will your posture. More importantly, if you have poor flexibility and balance

5. Strength training plays a role in disease prevention. strength training along with other healthy lifestyle changes can help improve glucose control.

6. Strength training boosts energy levels and improves your mood.  elevate your level of endorphins (natural opiates produced by the brain), which will make you feel great.

It has been proven that the more lean muscle mass you have, the longer and higher your rate of calorie burn.

I will be starting P2 on the 17th. If I have more muscle mass, I should be able to lose more on the VLCD.

Muscles need time to recover, so I will be doing weights on alternate days. Nothing heavy, just light weights for some toning and building.

I treated myself to a new bench today. I already had all the dumbbells, resistance band, weighted bar and kettlebells.

My coworker, who is also a personal trainer, made me a great circuit routine that basically works the entire body in one day. You do 3 rounds of 16 different exercises. 1 minute rest between exercises.  It's very tough, I've done it before and it is very effective.

I will just have to equalize my calories in and calories out while on the rest of phase 3. I may even workout on P2 and supplement the 500 cals with a good protein shake.

Phase 3 Day 13

It's a good morning. But it will be a busy one. Lot's of house stuff to do, beginning with mowing the yard. A horrible wind storm shredded my patio canopy (It was on it's last leg anyway). So I need to purchase a new one. I'm still waiting on my 30 bags of mulch to be delivered so that I can spread that.

Some domestic duties are on the to-do list also. Then I'm off to work.

Speaking of work, I am reading in a lot of posts on HCG Facebook pages of folks struggling in the evenings. One girl even said that "she feels like chewing her arm off:. I tried to think back and remember if I had that feeling. Nope, never did. But I realize that ZI don't experience that because I work 2nd shift, 230pm to 1030pm. Work is busy (Fire/Rescue Deispatcher) so I guess I just don't have time to think about being hungry or being bored and wanting to eat. So this shift is really a godsend for me. Besides, I am able to get a good workout in the mornings, because I'm not tired from working all day. So if you feel "hungry" or just think you are hungry but are really just bored, find something to do!

Now on to todays scale results. Drumroll Please!
Aaaaaack! I actually LOST 2.4 lbs, putting me 4.6 BELOW my LIDW. Yikes! I can't believe I need to eat MORE.

Now I have heard different trains of thought on continuing to lose weight on P3. Some say.....don't do it because you wont stabilize correctly, but I'm really not trying to stabilize at this weight. I am eating pleanty of calories so that the next round of VLCD will create as deficit.

The second train of thought is, you can continue to lose weight in P3 IF AND ONLY IF YOU PLAN ON DOING ADDITIONAL ROUNDS, WHICH I DO. This is okay as long as you are really upping your calories. So I'm not going to worry about it too awful much.

I'm working out pretty hard. My only fear is that when I go back on P2, that if I don't exercise like I am now, that the weight will not come off as easily.
We'll just have to see. I get really disturbed when people believe that every single body is the same. We all burn and metabolize at different rates. Different foods affect different people in different ways.

It's all about knowing your own body and what works for you. I have a gluten sensativity. Borderline Celiac. Eating wheat wont kill me, but it sure does make me uncomfortable.

Okay...gotta run. Busy day. Heres todays menue.

Breakfast: Protein shake
Lunch: Pan seared bay scallops over a bed of shredded lettuce with avocado, grated egg whites, tomatos, and crumbled bacon, the dressing was dukes mayo, vinegar, packet of truvia and the pan drippings from the scallops. OMG, it was delicious
Dinner: Salmon and green beans with almonds
Snack: Protein shake.

Halfway though Round 1 Phase 3 and Holding Steady

Good morning. It's day 12 of Phase 3 on the HCG diet protocal. Down .8 lbs, 2.1 lbs below LIDW. I'm halfway through this phase and frankly cant wait to get round 2 started. I'm working out hard, so I hope that, after Phase 3, I am left with more muscle mass. More muscle mass burns more calories. So I am betting that round 2 will be a little bit better.

My kayaking adventure yesterday was a bust. I woke up in the am and it was quite windy with a forecast of thunderstorms mid-day. I wasn't too worried about it so I collected my things and was ready to go. Then I got a call from the person I was suppose to go with. Too much birthday celebration for her and she was paying for it. She cancelled on me. So ther I sat ready to go. What to do? Well, I dressed for walking, but took along kayaking clothes. I headed over to the park anyway. By myself. I got to the kayak rental and they said that it was too windy and that the wind was also blowing in a bad direction. Meaning that it would be pushing me away from shore and getting back would be a bitch.

So I am glad I had plan B. I grasbbed my ipod and water and took off walking. This is a very old beautiful park.

I did 4.7 miles when that thunderstorm finally came through. The sky completely opened up.

No worries, I'd already gotten quite a workout. Left there and went to Whole Foods to pick up a few groceries.

I have to make sure that I concentrate my menus on P3 only foods. I don't really want any P3 leftovers in the ridge when I start round 2 on the 17th.

I am really anxious to start. I leave for my sons Basic Military Training Graduation on April 11th. I've got it timed so that R2P3 starts on that day. I figure that it will be easier to do P3 out of town than P2. I will be gone for 5 days. I will do 3-4 weeks of P3 after that and then a scond short round.

My goal.......to lose an additional 20-25 lbs by the time I go to see my son graduate. That will be a total of 60 lbs and will put me under 200lb (hven't seen that in about 9 years)

Hoping to make myself and my son proud.

I'm off to walk at the neighborhood park, another beautiful place to walk and closer to home.

It's a little chilly this morning so warming up will be very important. Even with the chill in the air, I was able to walk 6.15 miles

Todays Menu:
Breakfast: skipped (I know, bad)
Lunch: Protein shake and a salad made with lettuce, avocado, tomato, onion, w/ olive oil and lemon juice
Snack: Apple w almond butter
Dinner: lean boneless pork chops, 170g with grilled onion. Spinach cooked with 1 slice bacon
Snack: Fage yogurt

Sunday, March 4, 2012

Good Morning. I'm up at 5am again. I'm not sure whay this is happening. I busted my behind in the yard yesterday for about 4 hours. Raking, bagging, mowing. You'd think I would have slept like a baby. I'm going to have to talk to my doctor about this. I know that good sleep is important to your weight and overall well being.

My plans today, if the weather cooperates, is to go Kayaking with one of my friends. However, the forecast for the day shows thunderstorms and an 80% chance of rain. grrrrr. I've really been looking forward to it. I think it will be a great upper body workout too!. If it rains and the kayaking is cancelled, the bike will be out (it's supposed to be windy) I guess I will be on the elliptical machine today and do some weight training.

I found a recipe for carrot bars but didn't want to use carrots, so I used organic unsweetened coconut flakes. I used cocoa powder instead of the cinnamon called for in the recipe. They came out all right and kinda feel like I'm eating a brownie. (wished I'd used more cocoa and less coconut though.) But it was a nice treat.

I am maintaning my weight within the allowable limits. +/- 2lb from my LIDW of 219.8. This morning I am  218.5, up 1.5 but still 1.3 below LIDW

But I am looking forward to starting my next round on March 17th.

Menu for the day

Breakfast:egg salad
Snack: cheese stick and canteloupe
Lunch: salmon mushrooms
Snack: fake coconut brownie
Dinner: sauteed seafood mix on bed of lettuce and avocado, dressed with lemon juice and olive oil
Snack: Cheese stick

Phase 3 Day 9

Well. I am day 9 into phase 3 on the HCG Diet Protocol. I have remained within the 2 lb +/- window of my last injection day weight. I was up .1 today. I am beginning to get comfortable with my meal planning and am enjoying new combinations of foods.

I have also started incorporating a lot of exercise into my day. Today I walked 5.3 miles at the park. Very quick pace and always swinging my arms. I stop at the fitness spot and do crunches, reverse crunches and push ups. Further into the walk, I do Step ups on an 18" step, 2 sets of 10 on each leg and 1 set of 10 on each leg on the 24" step. I also walk up and down a ramp and stairs on an elevated platform. I do this everytime I make a round. Half of my walk is on a paved walking path and the other half in on a natural ground.

Other days, I will ride my mountain bike or hop on my elliptical machine for 45 minutes.
I am really enjoying working out.

I have developed a pretty serious rash on my arms and legs. Not related at all to the diet (I'm no longer taking the HCG) I self-treated for a few days with no relief. The doctor seems to think I came in contact with something. So she has put me on Steroids. I just hope that they don't affect my diet.

Menu for the day

Breakfast: Protein shake w coconut milk, isopure protein powder, 1 tsp of coconut oil and chocolate stevia
Lunch: Cajun BBQ shrimp and avocado over a bed of angel hair cabbage (I use the cabbage instead of lettuce, it has mor crunch and is more nutritious) I used olive oil and fresh lemon juice as a dressing.
Dinner: Porterhouse steak and onions sauteed in Irish garlic butter and spaghetti squash
Snack: apple with fage yogurt

Easing into the Groove of Phase 3

LIDW 36.2

Sile keeping an eagle eye on my LIDW (last injection day weight). I increased my calories yesterday because I had lost too much weight. Never thought I would here myself say that. it is frustrating, because  I have so much more weight to lose. Normally, I would take what I could get as far as weightloss.
But, I've said this on previous posts, Phase 3 of this HCG protocal is the most inportant part of the diet.
So I will do what is necessary for the protocal.
I did ask my physician if it mattered what my body compsition was, or did it just matter the weight. She said, just the weight. I asked this because I am working out now on P3. I do know that muscle weighs more that fat and that if I build muscle, my weight will go up. But my fat should go down because I am burning it. So now I have to take that into consideration during Phase 3.

I got my mountain bike tuned up and took it for a spin yesterday. Halfway through my ride, the wind picked up and it started to rain. No problem. Except. My body is reminding me this morning, of muscles that I forgot I had. Ouch! And I realize just how little "meat" I have on my backside.

The Menu for the day

Breakfast:8a 70z 2% plain fage yogurt w/ 1/2 c blueberries
Snack: 10:50amAfter a 4 mile brisk walk at the park) isopure protein shake w coconut milk, 1 tbsp of coconut oil and chocolate stevia.
Lunch: Cauliflower Pizza Crust w/ fresh tomato, mushroom,  onion canadian bacon  & mozzarella. See photo below
Snack: Apple w/ almond butter
Dinner Steak and mushrooms cooked it irish butter and fresh garlic. Salad of avocado, tomato and onion

Cauliflower Crust Pizza
And a porterhouse for dinner

Back Down the Hill Again!

Good morning, It is February 2nd and I am happy to report that I am down 2.6lbs today. That, plus the .9lb loss from yesterday has be almost back to the weight before the mysterious 4 pound gain on Jan 31st. yes it is good that the scale is moving downward, but I feel like I have lost 3 days of "losing" trying to get those 4lbs off again. My end date is February 19th and I am so afraid that I will not reach my personal goal.

I have decided not to work out for the rest of the week. I think that working out, is causing my muscles to retain water to repair themselves. Another experiment.

I will just keep moving forward.

Today is a busy day, up early. Not really enough sleep. (I need to log that for the doctor). My sons car is in disrepair. 8am to one shop, then to the second shop, then take him to work (30min away, in rush hour traffic, then to the grocery store, then home, orders need to go out and then I have to go to work at 2. Need to eat a fruit early.

I have a little bit of a headache this am, but it feels like it's muscular. Otherwise know as a "crick in my neck".

I was invited to join a Facebook Group dedicated to HCGers with thyroid issues. I've also ordered some CLA, great fat burning and muscle sparing supplement. my only concern is that it is slightly fatty and I'm not sure if it will affect the diet. Must talk to the dr about that.

Not sure what's on the menu for today. And I promise that I will add more recipes. I'm going to add more pages so that the recipe section is more user friendly.

Back from my running around. Been on the road since 7:30 this morning and all over the county. I'm not feeling up to snuff today, not sure why. There is a bug going around work, maybe the new meds, maybe little sleep. I just feel off.

Got my groceries and here is todays menu

Lunch: roast beef lettuce wrap
Snack: apple
Dinner: grilled chicken w hot cabbage apple claw, wasa

Contemplating staying home from work this afternoon. Just not sure yet.

Hopefully tomorrow, I will have lost that extra .5 lb plus and get back in the 220's.

***The tab on my sons car repair is $1,500.  aaaack. There's some more stress.

Halfway there......

Today starts the second half of my 42 day HCG Diet Round. I have endured through 21 full days of the VLCD (very low calorie diet). Have I been tempted, sure, often. But have deicded that I am worth staying true to the diet. I have made some modifications on days that I know I will have strenuous activity. If I get really hungry, I have made better choices on what to "cheat" on.

My goal for this round was 36lbs, although, from the information I have read, it's 42 days or 34 lbs, whichever comes first. Not sure why the 34lb limit.

My son and I are at odds. The air is so thick in the house you can cut it with a knife. It shouldn't be this way. He leaves in 15 days for the Air Force. But, it seems he doesn't have any need or desire to spend quality time with me before he leaves. What does that say about me? I feel very stressed and I don't like it. Even if he doesn't feel the need, why wouldn't he do it for me, knowing that "I" need it? All I know, is that I don't need the stress in the house. Enough about that....on to me.

I can honestly say that I am so happy that I decided to start this journey. I am pleased with the results so far. It's just a shame that this process costs so much money. Not everyone had $600 buck to throw down every 3 months. When I am done with this round, I will do the 3 week stabilization and then on to maintenance.
I really need to find out if it is okay to continue to lose while on Phase 4 (maintence) or will I gain back what I lose then. I really want to get back to working out hard.
I will probably do another round. I have already earmarked part of my income tax return for a potential 2nd round. We'll have to see how I do on phase 4. That is still 6 weeks away. No need to worry about that right now. (I'm a planner, what can I say)

Let's get back to the present. Not sure what my plans are for the morning. I need to get some work done out in the shed. But also work later. Don't want to wear myself out.

Menu for the day:

Snack: 1/2 grapefruit, protein juice
Lunch: crab salad and asparagus
Snack: apple
Dinner: Roast beef fajita lettuce wraps, brussel sprouts

Why am I slowing down so much?

Day 17 of Phase 2 of the HCG diet and only down .6....grrrrrr. However, I did work out yesterday and historically, I gain the day after I work out. Could that be it? Am I slowing to a snails pace? It's very frustrating to restrict yourself so much that all you get is a .2 loss. I'm beginning to wonder if I will reach my goal. I still have 25 days to go. I'm sure that if I do another round, I will follow the 800cal program. I really think that 500 is too low for my body weight.

Yesterday I was not feeling well. I ended up leaving work early because I had a fever. I feel the same this morning. I may go ahead and take some more pictures of myself today.

I need to break out the sewing machine and take in some pants. I tried on smaller jeans. They fit in the belly, but swallowing me in the butt and legs. Just my body type I guess. I've never had hips. Sort of straight up and down, even when I was thinner.

There are 2 other girls at work that are starting the program today. I enjoy that forums and facebook pages I belong to, but it will be nice to have someone in the flesh to talk to and compare notes with.

I have a follow-up doctors appointment on the 31st. I would really love to be down 25 by then. I'm still obsessing about the diet a bit. I really need to back down and just go about my day.

It's very early so I don't have a clue about todays menu.

Menu for the day:
Snack: apple w/ cinnamon, protein juice
Lunch: Onion Crusted veal cube steak, cabbage
Snack: Orange
Dinner: Crab/shrimp ceviche over micro greens salad

I also decided to do a Detox bath. How? You assk?

Fill the tub with the hottest water you can stand.
1c epsom salt
1c sea salt
2c baking soda

Soak for at least 40 minutes and make sure to drink cool water while you are in the bath. You will sweat alot. I started with the water kind of low and kept addin hot water to keep the temp up.
Felt wonderful afterwards.
